Holiday weekend fun December 1-2 2012

The Gatering of the CU, Saturday December 1, 2012

Saturday we had the fun match “The Gathering of the CU’ At the Toro park in Salinas. The weather turned out mild with some sun. It is always fun to see the puppies. We also had many new members join us this year. The morning hospitality and lunch were over the top good. We also had nine hounds try out for their Canine good citizen certificate. The Mordocks demonstrated in-line brace competition with their hounds off leash in the ring; very impressive.

I have posted several pictures in the photo gallery.

Carmel by the sea, Sunday December 2, 2012

For those who ventured onto the beach for the walk, I salute you ; the rain and wind were strong and steady. The Irish Wolfhounds loved it. We had a wonderful brunch at the Restaurant: The forge in the Forest. They set up a room for us and our IW’s and treated us like royalty. My food was delicious, including the desert made of a chocolate chip cookie type dough cooked in a cast iron skillet topped with ice cream, whipped cream, nuts and fruit; yummy. Some of the hounds ordered off the dog menu and had steak and chicken strips. By the end of the brunch the outside weather had cleared up and the sun had came out; so most of us took our hounds and strolled through the town and window shopped. The town is the most dog and Hound freindly I have ever seen, every store invited my hound and I in with dog water and treats; it’s the best way to window shop. I have several pictures posted in the photo gallery of this event.

For those of you that want to plan a weekend holiday and need a place to camp with your RV, or by tent. this is the best place in the Monterey area. The Veterans Memorial park and camp ground. It is on a hill overlooking Monterey with lots of trees and lawns. It has full bathrooms with showers and water at sites. It is a first come fist use facility, with many spaces for rv’s and tents. Below is a web site with information on the campground. The price is reasonable ($27/night), with a self service pay station. Notice that there are areas to walk and enjoy around the camp area. I think this campground is one of the best kept secrets of Monterey that everyone knows about. You won’t be disappointed.
