Upcoming Events

Our club provides a wide range of activities for club members and their hounds.

Many of our club members don't show their hounds. It is important to us that the club offers events of interest for all club members. We have had great success and participation with many of our events.

Backpacking - Emmigrant Wilderness, CA

July 11, 2026 - July 19, 2026

Backpacking adventure with your hounds

Northern California Irish Wolfhound Club (NCIWC) is offering a backpacking adventure for any able-bodied Irish Wolfhound and their human. NCIWC has organized many backpacking trips over the last 30 years.

To celebrate the 30th year of backpacking adventures in 2026, NCIWC is offering this anniversary trip to both members and non-members of NCIWC. I am excited to announce that the location for the backpacking is in the Emigrant Wilderness in California.

The Emigrant Wilderness is just North of Yosemite National Park, in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range of California. The beauty of the wilderness is only exceeded by our hounds. We will be hiking past several lakes and crossing several streams. Along the route are many vistas showing off the granite mountains and hidden valleys of the Sierra.

On hiking days, we will cover around 6 miles. We will have a couple of days when we spend two nights in one location.  Time to relax and enjoy the location fully.

The Club will provide the kitchen, the cook, and three meals a day. The Club also works with each adventurer attending, offering suggestions for equipment, packing, supplies and directions.

When: July 11- July 19, 2026, a total of 9 days.

Where: Emigrant Wilderness, Crabtree Trail Head, off Highway 108, in California. All the beauty of Yosemite National Park, without the crowds.

Expenses:  Cost for each person covers the food. You are responsible for your hound’s food and carrying it. You are responsible for providing your transportation to the trailhead.

NCIWC members: $150.00

Non-NCIWC members: $180.00

What: We will hike a circular route ending where we start. Most hiking days are around 6-9 miles in length. The camping locations are near either a lake or stream.

Please contact me, if you have any questions: fwc10000@gmail.com

This is my most favorite activity to do with my Irish Wolfhounds. I hope you will join in on the fun.

Sincerely,

Frank Christian aka Falkor (my trail name)
