Upcoming Events

Our club provides a wide range of activities for club members and their hounds.

Many of our club members don't show their hounds. It is important to us that the club offers events of interest for all club members. We have had great success and participation with many of our events.

Celtic Festival 2026

May 01, 2026 - May 03, 2026

Save the date to attend the Grass Valley Celtic Festival May 1-3, 2025 - great music, food and drink!  Check out their web site:

https://kvmrcelticfestival.org/

The admission, parking and camping and entrainment  is all FREE for NCIWC members and their Hounds.  The setting is up in the gentle sloping foothills studded with lots of fir and pine trees with the sound of Celtic Music echoing through the hills.

We are invited to participate in the Celtic Festival Parade and then attend the Queens Court, to present the Hounds to the Queen.   We take turns; providing pictures, pets and amazements to the Celtic goers. It is always heartwarming to see a young child's face coming up to give our hound for a hug or an elder person tear up to meet and greet an Irish Wolfhound once again in their life.

Later in the afternoon we will provide a 'meet and greet' and to give the history of the Irish Wolfhound and answer any questions. After the questions, we will put on a "fun" lour course. Last year we had a huge audience in the bleachers and we got rave reviews!

As a reminder, if you plan to attend please let me know by April 1st (no fools) at:
jim.glenneyrie@gmail.com

You get free entrance, which includes access to great music, food and drink. But you must RSVP with me so that I can put you and your hound on the gate list.

If you have a trailer or camper, you can have free dry camping on the fairground’s property, just let me know how much space you need.

Backpacking - Emmigrant Wilderness, CA

July 11, 2026 - July 19, 2026

Backpacking adventure with your hounds

Northern California Irish Wolfhound Club (NCIWC) is offering a backpacking adventure for any able-bodied Irish Wolfhound and their human. NCIWC has organized many backpacking trips over the last 30 years.

To celebrate the 30th year of backpacking adventures in 2026, NCIWC is offering this anniversary trip to both members and non-members of NCIWC. I am excited to announce that the location for the backpacking is in the Emigrant Wilderness in California.

The Emigrant Wilderness is just North of Yosemite National Park, in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range of California. The beauty of the wilderness is only exceeded by our hounds. We will be hiking past several lakes and crossing several streams. Along the route are many vistas showing off the granite mountains and hidden valleys of the Sierra.

On hiking days, we will cover around 6 miles. We will have a couple of days when we spend two nights in one location.  Time to relax and enjoy the location fully.

The Club will provide the kitchen, the cook, and three meals a day. The Club also works with each adventurer attending, offering suggestions for equipment, packing, supplies and directions.

When: July 11- July 19, 2026, a total of 9 days.

Where: Emigrant Wilderness, Crabtree Trail Head, off Highway 108, in California. All the beauty of Yosemite National Park, without the crowds.

Expenses:  Cost for each person covers the food. You are responsible for your hound’s food and carrying it. You are responsible for providing your transportation to the trailhead.

NCIWC members: $150.00

Non-NCIWC members: $180.00

What: We will hike a circular route ending where we start. Most hiking days are around 6-9 miles in length. The camping locations are near either a lake or stream.

Please contact me, if you have any questions: fwc10000@gmail.com

This is my most favorite activity to do with my Irish Wolfhounds. I hope you will join in on the fun.

Sincerely,

Frank Christian aka Falkor (my trail name)
