NCIWC is dedicated to promoting the continued well being and preservation of Irish Wolfhounds by example and education. NCIWC sponsors many activities for this purpose. The activities range from specialties and matches to beach walks and public events, such as Celtic festivals and parades.
Board meetings are held four times per year. An annual general membership meeting is held in June each year. Members and guests are invited to attend; however, only board members may vote on business.

Grass Valley Celtic Festival

Grass Valley Celtic Festival May 3 -5, 2024 great music, food and drink!
This coming year, we are now on the schedule to provide public education on Saturday and Sunday to discuss and answer questions about Irish Wolfhounds. We will also set up a lure course demonstration (something small like our fun runs) to run after the discussion. We will bring a few dogs that will run, but we are looking for others. So bring your hounds to run! Last year we had a huge audience in the bleachers. Very positive! For complete information click here Grass Valley Celtic Festival
As a reminder, if you plan to attend please let Jim Williams know by April 1 (no fools) at jim.glenneyrie@gmail.com. You must be on the gate list provided by Jim to be able to enter with your wolfhound.
You get free entrance, which includes access to great music, food and drink. Also if you have a trailer or camper, you can have free dry camping on the fairgrounds property, just let me know how much space you need. OR, I heard a rumor from Ally that members can dry camp on her property as well. She is about 15-20 minutes from the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley. But please schedule that with Ally Hicks directly.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade – March 16, 2024

The sun was shining on the 173rd Annual Parade in S.F. Joining in the celebration were 112 Units that included Beautiful Floats, Decorated Trucks representing local Unions, marching High School Bands, Irish Dancers, Bagpipe Corps, and Classic Cars.
BUT, as always, the BEST unit was NCIWC, being represented by 21 Wolfhounds walking with their proud families !!!
The crowd, along the Parade route, made lots of noise with clapping and cheering as we went by.
A special highlight this year was that new Club Members joined us. Ian and Laurie Rutherford led the way when we did our zig-zag serpent in front of the Judge’s stand. They are now on their way home to Canada.
The Announcer thanked us numerous times for our annual participation.
I always seem to come home with a memorable question. A lady asked, “What kind of dogs are those?” I replied, “ Irish Wolfhounds.” She then said, “ALL OF THEM ???”
Seriously ?
It was a fantastic day !!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Today I received a message from Club Treasurer, Lori Finucane. The message read, in part, “I have the check”. Therefore, I now have the pleasure to formally announce that the Northern California Irish Wolfhound Club won First Place and received a generous check in the amount of $200.00 as Best Irish Unit Other in the 172 nd St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Thanks go to everyone who, despite the horrible weather, came to San Francisco in support of our club. Thanks also go to the United Irish Societies of San Francisco for continuing to invite our club’s participation in this great annual event and giving us the opportunity to share our magnificent Wolfhounds with so many people. It doesn’t take very many Irish Wolfhounds to make a VERY BIG impression.
I hope to see you next year at the 173 rd running of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade!

The Magnificent Five
by Carol Gabriel
Only 5 Wolfhounds this year, but they made a HUGE impression!! Jack, Banshee, Tanner, O’Malley, and Fiona walked with their proud families and received applause all along the Parade Route. If we had a Dollar for every picture taken, we could all retire in style.
We met some very important people, especially the Chief of the Irish Police. He was visiting from Ireland and was so anxious to have his buddies take pictures of him with Banshee and Tanner. Love hearing their Irish accent.
The Captain of San Francisco’s Fire Department. She is posing with Banshee. Then, the Police Lieutenant with Tanner.
Our Hounds were Celebrities !! They deserve ANOTHER First Place Award !!!
