NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IRISH WOLFHOUND CLUB
165th ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE SAN FRANCISCO
SATURDAY, MARCH 12th 11:30 AM 2016
The Northern California Irish Wolfhound Club (NCIWC) has once again been invited to participate in the San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by the United Irish Societies of San Francisco. It has been a long tradition for the NCIWC to participate in this parade and we urge all that are able to participate. The parade route will take us and our Wolfhounds down Market Street and eventually to the judge’s reviewing stand which is located in front of San Francisco City Hall.
This event is open to NCIWC members and their invited guests. Participants and Wolfhounds will gather on 2nd St. at 10:30AM, one hour prior to the parade start time for registration and required check-in. At check-in all members and guests will be required to submit a signed waiver of liability for parade participation.
A support van will follow our parade unit. Small items can be placed in the support van as needed. Bottled water will be available in the van for participants and hounds.
When we reach City Hall and the judge’s reviewing stand we will perform a “snake” maneuver (zig-zagging line of hounds) for review by the judges. One person per hound please! Extra walkers can follow along in front of the support van smiling, cheering loudly for our hounds and waving to the crowd. NCIWC has won prizes in the past so let’s try for another prize by really impressing the judges with our fantastic Wolfhounds.
For those who have not attended the parade in the past, there will be several times that the parade stops along the route. This is a great opportunity for well socialized Wolfhounds to visit the crowd and make new friends. However, please break off from visiting when the parade starts moving again. It is necessary for us to stay together as a unit and NOT delay other parade units behind us. There are several sections of Market St. that are covered with metal grating. Please use caution in these areas and walk your Wolfhound/s around the grates. Serious injury is possible by walking hounds over the grates!
This year, for the first time, we are asking those members who have CELTIC or other traditional clothing to consider wearing it for the parade. CELTIC attire is however NOT a requirement for participation. If you do not have CETIC, attire be sure to wear a GREEN or WHITE shirt, GREEN sweater or other clothing suitable to this St. Patrick’s day celebration. Good walking shoes are a must!
Following this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade please plan to join us for a no host gathering at Traci Des Jardins Public House. The Public House located at 24 Willie Mays Plaza at AT&T Park is just a few blocks from the parade starting point. Wind down, enjoy a bite to eat, great refreshments and just relax before heading out for the ride home. Hounds are welcome on the patio.
Please let us know if you are planning to attend and include the number of hounds and guests. Celtic attire Y/N. We would appreciate your notice of intent to attend by Monday, March 7th.
Last year our unit was awarded a handsome cash prize. LET’S DO IT AGAIN AND LET’S HAVE FUN !
