18th Annual Celtic Festival September 26 to 28, 2014 Nevada County Fairgrounds Grass Valley

DSCF0043

NCIWC has been invited to appear once more at this festival as an exhibition of the “Great Celtic Hounds of Antiquity”.

Bring your well socialized Irish Wolfhound(s) for a weekend of fun and frivolity !

Dressing-up in period costume is definitely encouraged, so if you ever wanted to be a lady-in-waiting, a country squire or “just” a peasant with his or her hound(s) by your side, then this is most definitely for you …

NCIWC supplies the event insurance, some tents and electric fans and you bring your seats, x-pens and those lover’ly hounds.

(btw – if an attendee is not a member, the club insurance does not cover them so we recommend they ensure they have adequate coverage for this public event)

As per Festival rules, only Irish Wolfhounds please !

First, I will need to know who is going to attend – I have to get together a formal gate list well before the event date.

If you are not on that gate list (up to two persons per hound maximum please), you will be denied entry on the day, because none but service dogs are normally allowed on site.  It is better that you place your name on the list and then not be able to come (in which case please inform me asap), than to expect entry and be denied.  Anyone on the NCIWC “performers” gate list will have free access to the festival site, though if you’re not camping, the regular parking fees will have to be paid.  The organisers tell me they intend being extra “hot” on security this year.   On site parking (RVs, Trailers, Tents, etc) must be arranged directly with the Fairgrounds through the website – specify you’re with the Irish Wolfhounds so that you get a space near our display set up.

The Gate List will be held at the Grounds Entertainment check-in, just past gate 4.  To get to our display area, once checked in, you will enter via gate 5, waaaay in the back – we are in the “Animals of Celtic Lands” area.

Our display area is adjacent to but slightly set apart from the living history area. Whatever you do in the way of costumes is great. Throughout the Festival there will be the occasional musket-volley or field -cannon firing, so be prepared to handle your hound in a firm manner at these times in front of the public (its best is if you can de-sensitise them beforehand). There will be sheep (which are very well contained) horses (not so very well contained) and various other animals / birds on site, so be sure “Fido” is well socialised to such things … not to mention generally, around crowds of people.  As for the Raptors (birds of prey) and chickens, they are USUALLY tethered (but not always), so you’ll need to be especially careful when passing near them  …

To be placed on the Gate List, please contact Chris Thompson - even if
you are not yet decided (it is better to cancel than to try adding
later).

NCIWC members have free entry if named on the Gate List. Only IWs and
service dogs allowed, by the Fairgrounds. We are placed in the
"Animals of Celtic Lands" area - on the uphill side of the facility.
Limited shade, fans & help setting-up will be provided - if you have a
pop-up tent then do please bring it. If you want to, you can decorate
with Celtic-theme cloths, for atmosphere (these are available for
purchase at the event). You'll need sufficient X-pens, etc. for the
number of hounds you are bringing.
